THIRTY DAY ICE OUTLOOK FOR THE WESTERN AND CENTRAL ARCTIC FOR  SEPTEMBER ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA ON 1 SEPTEMBER 2022. THE NEXT 30 DAY OUTLOOK WILL BE ISSUED ON 15 SEPTEMBER 2022.

Summary for August 15 to August 29.
Average air temperatures were above normal for the southern Beaufort Sea, Amundsen Gulf and Coronation Gulf areas and slightly above normal for the Arctic Ocean. Air temperatures were near to below normal elsewhere in the region. Ice melt is generally around 2 weeks earlier than normal or greater than that climatological mean, over most eastern regions including McClure Strait, Viscount Melville Sound, McClintock Channel, Peel Sound and northern Victoria Strait/Larsen Sound.  Ice melt is near normal over the Arctic Ocean and around 3 weeks later than normal over the central Beaufort Sea and around 2 weeks later than normal in southern Victoria Strait. 

Weather forecast for September 1-30.
Air temperatures are forecast to be above normal over most of the region except near normal over the Chukchi Sea and Bering Strait areas. Ice melt progression varies throughout the region.  Ice melt is generally near normal along the Yukon and NWT coasts and in the Amundsen Gulf, Coronation Gulf, Queen Maud Gulf and Arctic Ocean.  Ice melt is around 1-2 weeks later than normal in the southern Beaufort Sea and around 3 weeks later than normal in Prince of Wales Strait.  Ice melt is around 1-2 weeks earlier than normal in Peel Sound, Victoria Strait, McClintock Channel, Viscount Melville Sound and McClure Strait.  

Southeastern Beaufort Sea. 
September 1-30
	- 1-3 tenths old and first-year ice with areas of 9-9+ tenths old and first-year ice within 80 nautical miles of Banks Island.
	- Elsewhere, open water with occasional patches of 1-3 tenths old ice in the extreme northern section.
	
Amundsen Gulf.
September 1-9
	- Open water to ice free except 9-9+ tenths old and first-year ice along parts of the coast of Banks Island. 
September 10-30
	- Open water to ice free except 7-8 tenths ice in the extreme northern section.

Prince of Wales Strait.
September 1-10
	- Open water with areas of 1-3 tenths old and first-year ice in the northern section.
	- Open water except 9-9+ tenths old and first-year ice along the coast in the western section. 	
September 11-18
	- 1-3 tenths ice with areas of 7-8 tenths ice in the southern section.
September 19-30
	- 1-3 tenths old, first-year and new ice with areas of 7-8 tenths old, first-year and new ice.

Northern Alaskan Coast.
September 1-7
	- Open water with patches of 1-3 tenths first-year ice including a trace of old ice along the coast.
	- 1-3 tenths old and first-year ice in the extreme northern section.
September 8-30
	- Open water with occasional areas of 1-3 tenths ice in the extreme northern section.

Western Alaskan Coast.
September 1-30
	- Ice free.

Northern Beaufort Sea south of 75°N.
September 1-15
	- 4-6 tenths old and first-year ice with areas of 7-8 tenths old and first-year ice in the southwestern section.
	- 9-9+ tenths old and first-year ice in the northern and northeastern sections.
	- 1-3 tenths old and first-year ice with areas of 9-9+ tenths old and first-year ice within 60 nautical miles of Banks Island.
September 16-22
	- 1-3 tenths old, first-year and new ice with areas of 4-6 tenths old, first-year and new ice in the extreme southwestern section.
	- 4-6 tenths old, first-year and new ice with areas of 9-9+ tenths old, first-year and new ice in the western section and within 30 nautical miles of Banks Island. 
	- Elsewhere, 7-8 tenths old and new ice with areas of 9-9+ tenths old and new ice. 
September 23-30
	- 4-6 tenths old, first-year, grey and new ice with areas of 7-8 tenths old, first-year, grey  and new ice in the extreme southwestern section and along the western coast of Banks Island. 
	- Elsewhere, 9-9+ tenths old and grey ice.
      
Arctic Ocean north of 75°N.
September 1-15
	- 7-8 tenths old and first-year ice in the southwestern section.
	- Elsewhere, 9-9+ tenths old, first-year and new ice.
September 16-30
	- 9-9+ tenths old, grey and new ice in the southwestern section.
	- Elsewhere, 9-9+ tenths old and grey ice.

Coronation Gulf.
September 1-21
      	- Ice free.
September 22-30
	- Open water to ice free.

Queen Maud Gulf.
September 1-21
	- Open water to ice free with occasional patches of 1-3 tenths first-year ice including a trace of old ice in the extreme northern section, west of King William Island. 
September 22-30
      	- Open water.
      	- Risk of occasional patches of 1-3 tenths ice in the extreme northern section.

Victoria Strait – Larsen Sound.
September 1-10
	- 1-3 tenths first-year ice including a trace of old ice with areas of 4-6 tenths first-year ice including a trace of old ice. 
September 11-18
	- Open water except 1-3 tenths ice in the southwestern section.
September 19-30
 	- 4-6 tenths first-year and new ice including up to 1 tenth old ice with patches of 7-8 tenths first-year and new ice including up to 1 tenths old ice in the northern part of Larsen Sound.
	- Elsewhere, 1-3 tenths old, first-year and new ice with patches of 4-6 tenths old, first-year and new ice.

Peel Sound.
September 1-10
	- Open water to ice free. 
September 11-23 
	- Open water except 1-3 tenths old and new ice in the extreme northern section.
September 24-30
	- 4-6 tenths new and grey ice including 1 tenth old ice with areas of 7-8 tenths new and grey ice including up to 2 tenths old ice in the northern section. 
	- Elsewhere, 1-3 tenths new ice.

M’Clintock Channel.
September 1-18
	- Open water with occasional patches of 1-3 tenths old and first-year ice along the southwestern coast of Prince of Wales Island.
	- Elsewhere, 7-8 tenths old and first-year ice with areas of 9-9+ tenths old and first-year ice.
September 19-23
	- 4-6 tenths old, first-year and new ice with areas of 7-8 tenths old, first-year and new ice along the southwestern coast of Prince of Wales Island.
	- Elsewhere, 7-8 tenths old, first-year and new ice with areas of 9-9+ tenths old, first-year and new ice. 
September 24-30
