THIRTY DAY ICE OUTLOOK FOR THE WESTERN AND CENTRAL ARCTIC FOR MID-SEPTEMBER TO MID-OCTOBER ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA ON 15 SEPTEMBER 2022. THE NEXT 30 DAY OUTLOOK WILL BE ISSUED ON 30 SEPTEMBER 2022.

Summary for September 1 to 12
Average air temperatures have been slightly above to above normal values over the forecast region.  Ice melt is near normal over the Arctic Ocean and the southern Beaufort Sea and around 2 weeks later than normal over the central Beaufort Sea.  There is generally less ice than normal for this time of year over the eastern regions, most notably in McClure Strait, Viscount Melville Sound, McClintock Channel and extreme eastern Beaufort Sea. 

Weather forecast for September 15 to October 15.
Air temperatures are forecast to be above normal over the entire forecast region. 

Southeastern Beaufort Sea. 
September 15-30
	- Open water to ice free with occasional patches of 4-6 tenths old and first-year ice within 60 nautical miles of Banks Island and over the extreme northern section. 
October 1-8 
	- 1-3 tenths multi-year, second-year and new ice with areas of 4-6 tenths multi-year, second-year and new ice within 30 nautical miles of Banks Island and in the extreme northern section.
	- Elsewhere, open water to ice free.
October 9-15
	- 4-6 tenths multi-year, second-year and new ice within 30 nautical miles of Banks Island and in the extreme northern section.
	- Patches of new ice forming along parts of the coast. 

Amundsen Gulf.
September 15-October 6
	- Open water to ice free except 1-3 tenths old ice in the extreme northern section. 
October 7-15
	- Open water to ice free except 4-6 tenths multi-year and new ice in the northern section.

Prince of Wales Strait.
September 15-30
	- Open water with occasional areas of 1-3 tenths old and new ice.
October 1-7
	- 4-6 tenths multi-year and new ice with areas of 7-8 tenths multi-year and new ice in the northern section.
	- 1-3 tenths multi-year and new ice with areas of 4-6 tenths multi-year and new ice in the southern section.
October 8-15
	- 7-8 tenths multi-year and grey ice with areas of 9-9+ tenths multi-year, second-year and grey ice in the northern section.
	- 4-6 tenths multi-year and new ice with areas of 7-8 tenths multi-year, second-year and new ice in the southern section.

Northern Alaskan Coast.
September 15-21
	- Open water to ice free.
September 22-October 5
	- Open water to ice free with occasional areas of 1-3 tenths old and first-year ice in the extreme northern section.
October 6-15 
	- Open water to ice free with occasional areas of 1-3 tenths multi-year and second-year ice in the extreme northern section. 
	- Patches of new ice forming along the coast. 

Western Alaskan Coast.

	- Open water to ice free.
October 1-15
	- Open water to ice free.

Northern Beaufort Sea south of 75°N.
September 15-30
	- 1-3 tenths old and first-year ice with areas of 4-6 tenths old and first-year ice in the southwestern section and along the coast of Banks Island.
	- Elsewhere, 7-8 tenths old, first-year and new ice with areas of 9-9+ tenths old, first-year and new ice. 
October 1-7
	- 4-6 tenths multi-year, second-year and new ice with areas of 7-8 tenths multi-year, second-year and new ice in the extreme southern section and along the western coast of Banks Island. 
	- Elsewhere, 9-9+ tenths multi-year, grey-white and grey ice.
October 8-15

	- Open water to ice free with occasional patches of 1-3 tenths first-year ice including a trace of old ice in the extreme northwestern section along the coast of Victoria Island.

	- Open water except 1-3 tenths second-year ice including a trace of multi-year ice in the northern sections.

Victoria Strait – Larsen Sound.
September 15-30
	- Open water to ice free except occasional patches of 1-3 tenths first-year ice including a trace of old ice in the southwestern section.
October 1-7
	- 1-3 tenths second-year and new ice including up to 1 tenth multi-year ice with patches of 4-6 tenths second-year and new ice including up to 1 tenth multi-year ice in the southwestern section.
	- Elsewhere, open water with areas of 1-3 tenths second-year and new ice with up to 1 tenth multi-year ice. 
October 8-15
	- 4-6 tenths second-year and new ice including up to 1 tenth multi-year ice with patches of 7-8 tenths second-year and new ice including up to 2 tenths multi-year ice in the western section.
