- Climate Variability Products
(Departure from Normal and Ice Cover products)
The Canadian Ice Service Archive (CISA) is divided into three major sections:
- the Archive Data section,
- the Climatic Products section
- the Latest, Past and Future Ice conditions section
The Archive Data section provides access to the Canadian Ice Service's on-line ice charts (including Regionals since 1968 and Dailies since 1999) as well as to ice thickness data for Canadian stations. For more information about CIS archive data please visit the Archive Data Overview page.
The Climatic Products section introduces the CIS Digital Archive - Regional Charts dataset used in the production of our climatic products. Various climate products based on this dataset such as climatic ice atlases, ice cover graphs for climate variability and departure from normal products are also introduced and accessible on-line. For more information on the CISDA and CIS climatic products, please visit the Climatic Products Overview page.
The Latest, Past and Future Ice conditions section provides information about current ice conditions for the Canadian Arctic , the Great Lakes and the Canadian East Coast but can also show statistical information on past ice conditions over these areas. Furthermore the expected ice conditions for this winter are provided with the Seasonal Outlook.

Changed Ice Graph northern areas season start date - (18 May 2007)
The season start date for the Northern regions in the Ice Graph application has been changed from the standard 25 June to 14 May. This to accommodate users wanting to view and compare ice cover from recent charts for the 2007 season. However, users should note that for the period 1968-1979 interpolated data outside of the standard season "25 June-15 October" is not reliable and should not be used in comparisons.
We have also started issuing our standard Weekly Ice Cover graph for the Northern areas as of 14 May 2007. The other 2 ice cover products will start only on June 25.
